Is a battery worth it right now?
“For most homes with solar, yes, especially now the federal battery discount takes a good chunk off the price. That discount steps down every six months, so the sooner you're in, the more you get.”

UV Power installs solar batteries across Brisbane and South East Queensland: GoodWe, Sigenergy and SolaX, and other brands too. A home battery stores your spare solar during the day for use at night, so you buy less from the grid, and with backup set up it keeps the lights on in a blackout.
Every battery is sized to your home, so we price it on a written quote. Our quotes include GST.

Each battery we feature here is on the Clean Energy Council's approved list, comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and is sized to how your home uses power.
Batteries from these brands are part of our range too. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll give you a straight comparison.

The four batteries we install most, side by side. The kWh figures are how much energy each one holds; usable capacity is what you can actually draw from it.
| Battery | Module size | Size range | Usable capacity | Blackout backup | Warranty | Datasheet |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoodWe ESA | 9 kWh modules | 9 to 54 kWh in one stack (one to six modules), up to 108 kWh as two stacks | 8.7 kWh per module, 52.2 kWh with six | Built for whole-home backup: the bypass is built in (up to 63 A single phase, 80 A three phase) and it switches over in under 4 milliseconds | 10 years on the power module and the battery modules, which keep at least 70% of usable energy | Datasheet (PDF) |
| GoodWe Lynx F G2 | 3.2 kWh modules | 6.4 to 28.8 kWh in one tower; 9.6 to 22.4 kWh with the GoodWe EHB we pair it with | All of its rated capacity | Through the GoodWe EHB hybrid inverter, which switches to backup in under 10 milliseconds | 10 years, keeping at least 70% of usable capacity | Datasheet (PDF) |
| Sigenergy SigenStor | 6 kWh or 9 kWh modules | 6 to 54 kWh in one stack (one to six modules) | 6.0 kWh or 9.0 kWh per module, up to 54 kWh | Through the Sigen Energy Controller on top of the stack. With Sigenergy's Energy Gateway, Sigenergy rates the switchover at 0 milliseconds | 10 years on the battery modules and the energy controller, keeping at least 70% of usable energy; Sigenergy asks that the system stays online | Datasheet (PDF) |
| SolaX HS51 | 5.1 kWh modules | 10.2 to 66.5 kWh (two to thirteen modules); one tower holds up to ten (51.2 kWh) | 90% of capacity on SolaX's datasheet: 9.1 kWh from 10.2 kWh, 46.0 kWh from 51.2 kWh | Through a SolaX hybrid inverter, which switches over in under 10 milliseconds; whole-home backup (up to 63 A) with an X1-VAST | 10 years, keeping at least 70% of its energy, up to 6,000 cycles | Datasheet (PDF) |
We don't list battery prices: every battery is sized to your home, so we price it on a written quote. Our quotes include GST.
What a battery can run in a blackout depends on how it is wired (whole home or chosen circuits) and on the inverter's size, so we size the backup to what you want to keep on.

People often ask which of the two to choose. Here is Ian's answer, in his own words.

“Both are good, honestly. GoodWe is the better price and the after-sales has been excellent. Sigenergy costs a bit more, but in my opinion the technology is the best around. Tell us your budget and what you want it to do, and we'll point you the right way.”

Ian's personal opinion, in his own words.

“For most homes with solar, yes, especially now the federal battery discount takes a good chunk off the price. That discount steps down every six months, so the sooner you're in, the more you get.”
“The solar and battery rebates get smaller over time, so waiting usually costs you more than it saves: you pay bigger power bills in the meantime and get a smaller rebate at the end.”
“Usually, yes. Depending on your inverter, we can add a battery that works with it or swap to a hybrid that does both. Send us a photo of your inverter label and we'll tell you what's possible.”
“A standard solar system switches off in a blackout for safety. With the right battery and backup set up, your house keeps running. Tell us what you need to keep on and we'll size it for that.”

Our first choice is the GoodWe ESA, then the GoodWe Lynx F, Sigenergy and SolaX. People also ask us about these brands, so here is Ian's view of each.
Already own an AlphaESS, BYD or Fronius system? How to get help with it
“The Powerwall is the one everyone's heard of, and it's a great battery. For most homes, though, I think GoodWe or Sigenergy give you better value for your money, and we'll happily show you the numbers side by side.”
“BYD make a solid battery, and plenty of people ask about it because of their cars. We still install it, often paired with a Fronius inverter, when it suits the job.”
“AlphaESS is a decent all-in-one and we still install it when a customer's set on it. For a new system I'd usually point you to GoodWe or Sigenergy.”
“Sungrow make good gear, and their batteries work best with Sungrow. They only work with the Sungrow hybrid inverter, all in the iSolarCloud app. We install them when they're the right fit for the job.”
“Fronius is the Austrian brand the trade respects, and we're a Fronius Service Partner, so we look after plenty of them. They cost more up front, but they're built to last and easy to service.”
